About Alaska Cancer Survivors Day
For millions of people living with cancer, National Cancer Survivors Day®️ is a treasured Celebration of Life observed annually on the first Sunday in June. It is also a day to acknowledge the contributions of their families, friends, and healthcare providers, as well as those engaged in cancer research. Anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of their life – is a cancer survivor, as defined by the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation.
This annual Alaskan celebration honors National Cancer Survivors Day by highlighting events across the state. It is organized by a group of volunteers from the Alaska Cancer Partnership in collaboration with our partners. Host Your Own Event
We believe that the most impactful and empowering events are often those organized by and for individuals within their own communities. These events offer communities the opportunity to celebrate the resilience and strength of cancer survivors they know while fostering healing, solidarity, and a sense of belonging – together.
The Alaska Cancer Survivors Day planning team recognizes that planning and hosting an event requires significant time and energy commitments, so we have created a guide to reduce some of the burden of these commitments in the hope of empowering individuals and communities at the local level to create their own events. Whatever the event may be, and no matter how big or small it is, this guide will equip you with relevant information, insights, and planning steps to consider when making your event the best it can be.
